High Gas Prices Lead to Vehicle Cuts

Metro Nashville will reduce its vehicle fleet by 10% and make other changes to try to save money amidst rising gas prices, reports The Tennessean. The city will eliminate 400 vehicles, reportedly saving the government more than $1.4 million a year. The fire department already has made cut backs over the last few years. Fire Chief Steve Halford told this paper he cut back on his department’s take-home vehicles after taking the job in 2001.
