Heart-Pounding Evidence

For fire departments that run ambulance services, saving cardiac-arrest patients remains a long shot. In fact, depending on how it's measured, cardiac save rates for major cities hovers between 1% and 3%. But there's a growing body of evidence showing that a protocol that emphasizes chest compressions makes it as much as 10 times more likely that the patient will survive.
