Respirators are complex devices; the SCBA is arguably the most complex of them all. That's why the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has dedicated a lab to its study. The National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory located in Pittsburgh focuses on respiratory protective equipment and other personal protective technology. Its Technology Evaluation Branch certifies respirators.
