Carr to Head Charleston F.D.

On Monday, Charleston, S.C., Mayor Joe Riley selected Thomas Carr to be the city's next fire chief. Carrr was one of seven finalists for the job vacant since Rusty Thomas retired in June. The city council must approve the nomination. Carr is a 30-year veteran who has spent the last four years as chief of the Montgomery County (Md.) Fire Department, a combination department with 1,300 career firefighters and nearly an equal number of volunteers. The department has an operating budget of $200 million.
