Chief Sues Departments for Negligence

Robert Black, fire chief of Madison Township, Ind., has filed a lawsuit against two departments for injuries he received while recovering another firefighter's body who was missing for 45 minutes, and for the negligence that led to the firefighter's death. He broke his ankle falling from a second-story balcony while rescuing fallen Kent Township firefighter Greg Cloud. The Associated Press reports that Black accuses the Hanover and Kent volunteer fire companies of negligence for not keeping track of firefighters on-scene.
