11 Firefighters Receive Higher Pay for Fake Degrees

In American Canyon, Calif., seven active firefighters and four retired firefighters received raises totaling $60,000 &mdash: about $23,500 more than the previous months' $36,465 — after receiving degrees from an unaccredited online school, Almeda University. According to the Times-Herald, the raises could be given because the 2002 fire union contract did not require degrees from accredited schools. The bonuses to the active firefighters have since been rescinded. Napa Valley Fire Chief Keith Caldwell, who approved the raises, held a press conference saying the raises were given to 10 firefighters, not 11. Caldwell also said he submitted the application ...
