California Chief Retires

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Escondido Fire Chief Vic Reed will retire Dec. 1. He was on the department for 29 years, spending the last 11 as chief. An announcement regarding his replacement could come this week. Reed told the paper that he plans to teach emergency center operations for consulting firms and return to school to study philosophy or history. “He has highly improved how we work together seamlessly as one fire department, although we are made up of many fire departments,” Chief Bill Metcalf of the North County Fire Protection District told the paper. ...
