Salt Lake City Hires New Chief

Tom Shannon will become fire chief of the Salt Lake City (Utah) Fire Department. Shannon beat out 64 other applicants for the position. As chief of SLCFD, Shannon will command a department of 393 employees and 14 fire stations deploying 13 engines, three ladders, one heavy rescue and four ARFF units. SLCFD operates two battalions and covers 114 square miles. Shannon will oversee an annual operating budget of $34 million.
