Md. County Makes Residential Sprinklers Mandatory

The Anne Arundel (Md.) county council approved a measure to require residential sprinklers in all new homes beginning later this year. The bill was first introduced in late 2008, and supported by every major fire service organization on a federal, state and local level. The bi-partisan vote passed 6 to 1. Members of the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association, Professional Firefighters IAFF Local #1563, Maryland State Fireman’s Association, Maryland State Fire Chief’s Association, the Maryland State Fire Marshal and other emergency responders were present in council chambers when the vote was taken. “This legislation will save lives," ...
