Fight the fear factor

Most children love fire trucks, as we're reminded each time we travel to schools, participate in parades or host fire station visits. However, those same children often don't feel the same way about firefighters outfitted in turnout gear and SCBA. In many public education programs, a firefighter or two are introduced to a class before suiting up. They crawl around while breathing air, giving the students a chance to see and hear how firefighters look and sound when they're searching a home during a fire.
