Fire Research Project Gets Funding

Underwriters Laboratories secured nearly $1 million in federal grant money to research wetting agents and lightweight constructions. UL is teaming up with the Chicago Fire Department, the Phoenix Fire Department, the University of Maryland and the International Association of Fire Chiefs to conduct the research and disseminate the results. The $991,900 Fire Prevention and Safety Research Grant came via the Department of Homeland Security and will be used to test structural stability of engineered lumber and lightweight construction and what effect suppression agents have on this type of construction.
