FEMA Grants Upgrade Miss. Station

The Federal Emergency Management Agency will provide a $1.9 million grant from the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program to Bay St. Louis, Miss., to upgrade a new fire station to federal shelter standards to serve as a safe haven for first responders and sheltering during emergency operations. Community Development Block Grant funding and local funds will cover the remaining portion of the $2 million project. The 12,000-square-foot fire station will be upgraded to withstand high winds and the debris impact during tornadoes, hurricanes and other extreme wind events.
